Set up Descrybe Legal Engine in ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT to Descrybe

Once you have a Descrybe plan, use this guide to connect Descrybe Legal Engine to ChatGPT. It covers the recommended dashboard-first setup path, the alternate ChatGPT Apps path, account requirements, and common setup issues.

How ChatGPT connects to Descrybe

There are two ways to connect ChatGPT to Descrybe Legal Engine. You can start from ChatGPT and find Descrybe in Apps, or you can start from descrybe.com. Starting from Descrybe is usually easier if you do not already have a Descrybe account or are not already signed in.

Before you start

  • You need an active Descrybe subscription with Legal Engine or Platform access.
  • You need a ChatGPT account that can use apps.
  • Sign in to Descrybe before you start the final ChatGPT connection step.
  • One Descrybe Legal Engine subscription can work across supported assistants and apps. You do not need a separate Descrybe subscription for each supported integration.

Setup video

This video shows the ChatGPT setup flow and why starting from your Descrybe dashboard is usually the smoother path.

Alternate setup from ChatGPT

You can also start directly from ChatGPT. This works well when you already have an active Descrybe account and are signed in to Descrybe in the same browser.

  1. 1

    Open Apps in ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, open Apps from the left side of the interface.

  2. 2

    Search for Descrybe

Search for Descrybe and open the Descrybe Legal Engine app listing. You can also open the directly.

  3. 3

    Click Connect

Click Connect on the ChatGPT listing.

  4. 4

Sign in to Descrybe if asked

ChatGPT checks with Descrybe to confirm your account and subscription. If you are signed in with an active Descrybe subscription, setup should finish quickly.

Why starting from Descrybe can be easier

If you are not signed in to Descrybe, or if you do not have a Descrybe account yet, the popup window opened by ChatGPT may be too small for a smooth account or checkout flow. In that situation, start from descrybe.com, sign in or subscribe there, and then connect ChatGPT from your Descrybe dashboard.

Use Descrybe Legal Engine in ChatGPT

Connect once

You only need to connect Descrybe Legal Engine to ChatGPT once for your account. You do not need to repeat setup every time you start a chat.

Add Descrybe to the chat

After setup, open a new ChatGPT conversation and add Descrybe Legal Engine to the chat before asking your legal research question.

Ask for Descrybe by name

If you are already in a conversation, you can write "Use Descrybe" or "Use Descrybe Legal Engine" so ChatGPT knows to use Descrybe for the legal research task.

Let ChatGPT check your subscription behind the scenes

ChatGPT and Descrybe may confirm that your Descrybe subscription is active when you use the app. That happens behind the scenes during normal use.

Try a first prompt

Use Descrybe Legal Engine to find primary-law cases on this issue in the relevant jurisdiction, then show me the sources I should read first.

Plans, usage, and data

ChatGPT access is separate

ChatGPT is managed by OpenAI. You may need a ChatGPT plan that supports apps, and that plan is separate from your Descrybe subscription.

No per-assistant Descrybe subscription

Your Descrybe Legal Engine or Platform subscription covers supported Descrybe integrations for your account as they become available. You do not need a separate Descrybe subscription for ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity.

No Descrybe usage upcharges

Descrybe does not add usage upcharges on top of your Descrybe subscription for Legal Engine use.

Focused legal research results

Descrybe is designed to send back the focused legal research data the assistant needs, rather than dumping long raw opinions into the conversation by default.

Troubleshooting

The ChatGPT popup is too small

Close the popup, sign in or subscribe directly at descrybe.com, then connect ChatGPT from your Descrybe dashboard.

ChatGPT sends you to checkout

Your Descrybe account does not have active Legal Engine or Platform access yet. Choose a plan, then return to the ChatGPT connection step.

You connected the wrong Descrybe account

Sign out of Descrybe, sign back in with the account that has the active subscription, and restart the ChatGPT connection step.

ChatGPT is connected but not using Descrybe

Start a new chat and add Descrybe Legal Engine to the conversation. You can also ask directly: "Use Descrybe Legal Engine for this legal research question."

You cannot find Apps in ChatGPT

Check whether your ChatGPT account and plan support apps. ChatGPT labels and menus may change, so look for Apps, tools, or the marketplace area where ChatGPT lists available apps.

if your account should have access but ChatGPT cannot connect.
